The Wonder of Learning—The Hundred Languages of Children exhibit sparks deep dialogue on important issues facing our communities and those impacting young children nationwide. From June 16-August 26, the exhibit and related events for educators and the public will provide opportunities for educators and the public to explore early childhood education in the context of activism, reflecting on our communities' unique strengths and challenges and highlighting the global impact of early learning.

    NAREA Summer Conference

    Early Childhood Education as Activism: Stewardship, Social Justice and Global Engagement

    This conference is designed for all educators who wish to advance their knowledge of the Reggio Emilia approach. Infant, toddler, preschool, elementary, secondary and university educators will benefit from presentations and discussions designed to support interpretation and understanding of learning, teaching and living. Presentations related to values and experiences from Reggio Emilia, Italy will be the focus.

    Ann Arbor Summer Festival Kid Zone

    Let your creativity loose to combine and manipulate many materials, natural and synthetic. Loose parts are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways. They are materials with no specific set of directions that can be used alone or combined with other materials. Join staff from the UM's Children's Centers in this preview of their "Wonder of Learning Exhibit" for families and early childhood educators on campus.

    Allen Creek Preschool: Outdoor adventure - Water Play

    Come join us at Allen Creek Preschool in our Franklin Nature Area for a morning of open exploration of water play. The water atelier features natural materials - lengths of split bamboo, stumps, and rocks - for designing and building waterways. There are areas for exploring floating, sinking, filling, pouring, and flowing water. Water is wondrous for everyone - toddlers, preschoolers, older sibs and on and on!

    Children may get their clothes wet while exploring with water; a change of clothes is a good idea.
